NABRA 2023 North Alport Bay Ratepayers Association An Information Site for Members Services Welcome! Have a safe and happy autumn and winter, everyone! NabraOnline is an online scrapbook of information where members can post and exchange information about their community. And we most certainly welcome your input and contributions! There is a calendar where NABRA dates and events can be found, as well as events in the area that people might find of interest. In our Resources section, there are listings for plumbers, electricians, handymen, and more, all submitted by members who've used those professionals. If you have a recommendation for a favourite shop or restaurant, why not share that with your neighbours? In the Members Only section, you can find a contact list for other members, download NABRA minutes, and such newsletters as the Muskoka Lakes Association (MLA) updates. About WHO WE ARE The North Alport Bay Residents' Association (NABRA) was founded in 1965 by a group of residents that included Orb Kennedy, Blake Heathcote, Cliff Roberts, Reg Danko, Isobel MacAskill, Lou Specht, Glen Coates, and others long since departed from the area. ​ The road was originally built by Isobel MacAskill (Isobel and Blake Heathcote's grandmother) in the 1940s. She'd purchased land from her brother, Jack McVittie, who had previously purchased a large quantity of land from around Alport Bay from Max Beaumont's father in the 1930s. The Association was originally known as the Alport Bay Cottagers Association, and its objective was simple: to unite the community in maintaining the road for the benefit of all residents and to investigate what services could and should be provided by the City of Bracebridge through our payment of municipal taxes. In those early years, there was no garbage collection, and so one objective the Association pursued was approaching Bracebridge City Council to request a container be placed near Beaumont Farm. ​ The Association continues to maintain the road and monitor shared community concerns as younger generations of original owners and new residents continue to enjoy this spectacular corner of Muskoka. News & Updates June 10, 2023 - NABRA AGM The 2023 NABRA Annual General Meeting will take place at 1022 Bailey Lane (at the Kennedys) Saturday, June 10th, 2023, at 10.00, rain or shine. Please bring a chair. FOCA Update As the President of NABRA, I receive a newsletter periodically from FOCA (Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations). This is the organization through which we have our Insurance. FOCA has a lot of publications that are available either in print or on-line: “Shoreline Owner’s Guide to Healthy Waterfronts ” - great info for new (or old) property owners. “Troubled Waters Forum ” - “The Power of the Past ” webinar and other inspiring webinars in the series available at: https://foca.on.ca/troubled-waters-webinar-series/ . All FOCA educational brochures and many video resources can be found at: https://foca.on.ca/news/publications or by contacting the FOCA office. There are many excellent articles and, although I have not yet followed up with any of the online information mentioned above, I have read or scanned most of the articles in the magazine. General Information June 8, 2024 - NABRA AGM The 2024 NABRA Annual General Meeting will take place (location to be determined) on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at 10.00, rain or shine. Please bring a chair. Garbage & Recycling Garbage and recycling pick-up in our community is every Friday morning, typically starting around 7.00 am. This service is provided by the City from mid-May to late October. This year, recycling and garbage collection stop for the winter months late October 2023 . In the months in between, there are garbage and recycling containers provided near the entrance to Beaumont Farm Road, opposite Beaumont Farm. ​ NOTE : Leaves and other yard debris are NOT collected as part of the City's services.
